Guide to Flea and Tick Medication – Ask A Vet

There is a myriad of different flea and tick prevention medications that you could grab on Navy Exchange Black Friday 2019 with some exciting discounts and offers. Let’s cut through the confusion and talk about it.

Today we’re going to discuss how to keep your pet free of those pesky parasites that are outdoors. This can be very simple to do and keep your pet safe. Fleas and ticks tend to be seasonal but in colder climates, you may not have to use flea prevention as frequently. Now, flea prevention is essential majorly in warmer areas.
  • Advantage II - One of the products you will probably see during the Black Friday Sale is “Advantage II”. This product has imidacloprid. It also has some other medications in there that keep your pet free from fleas, flea eggs, and flea larvae. This is what many vets might call an insect growth regulator in the sense that it does prevent eggs from hatching and larvae becoming adult fleas. Make sure to choose Advantage II wisely for your pet, you will find this medication for both cats as well as dogs.
  • Frontline Plus – Frontline Plus is fast-acting. It kills fleas and ticks together. What interesting about this product is it absorb into the fat of the skin, therefore, it is essentially waterproof. But the truth is that frequently bathing can disturb the efficacy of this product.
  • Revolution - Another product that many vets like for cats are Revolution. It has a medication called Selim Ector. This will protect dogs and cats alike but personally, it’s more effective for cats. It protects against fleas, ticks, heartworms, intestinal parasites, ear mites, and some skin mites. These are all potential parasites that your cat may be indoor/outdoor can come in contact with. As they go and inspect the neighborhood and enjoy the outside life.
