Evolution of the Camera

We are living in techonologically the most advanced era of human civilisation. Specially the last two centuries have witnessed many changes in science and technology, may because of the fact that new inventions were taking place, there was an intense competition among the European colonisers to grab more and more resources all over the world. To fight this competition there was a need of a revolution and it actually took place in Europe in late 19th and early 20th centuries which commonly known as the industrial revolution.

It was a period when every European empire was fighting the physical and the mental wars simultaneously. The only difference was that the physical wars were taking place on foreign lands and the mental wars back at home in factories and industries. This chaos led to many new inventions and one of the biggest one was that of camera. Invented in 1816 by Joseph Nicéphore Niépce in France on the verge of industrial revolution. Even Joseph have had a little idea about the significance of hi invention. Since then the camera has seen several different changes in it. The timeline of the camera may go like this-
  • Camera Obscura
  • Daguerretypes and Calotypes
  • Dry plates
  • 35mm Film Roll
  • TLRs
  • And several digital cameras
  • Phone cameras
Throughout its journey, the camera witnessed many important events of time which now remains as memories of the past. From victories of wars to the horrors of holocaust, from surface of moon to the life beneath the oceans, from the icebergs and glaciers of Antarctica to the deserts of Gulf.
